Michael J. Rawl Principal Michael J. Rawl is Principal of Horizon Philanthropic Services, a firm providing philanthropic services to foundation and non-profit clients, primarily on the DelMarva Peninsula and Northern Delaware. Prior to forming Horizon in 2002 Rawl was a corporate executive who then managed a series of family, corporate and community foundations for 18 years. Those included the Intelligent Electronics Foundation, the Sanford Foundation, the Mid-Shore Community Foundation and the Chester County Community Foundation.
Stuart J. Brahs Associate Stuart J. Brahs of Lewes, DE, is a retired executive of a Fortune 500 global financial services and asset management company, where he established and ran its Washington, D.C. office for over 17 years. He was educated at Georgetown and George Washington Universities and the University of Madrid. Mr. Brahs chairs the Woodrow Wilson House Museum advisory board, a National Trust for Historic Preservation property and the only Presidential museum in Washington, D.C. In this role he has helped to develop and implement two major capital campaigns to restore the 1915 property's exterior envelope and to fund an East Coast tour of the Wilson 150 exhibition. He is currently engaged in the launch of a two-year $2.5 million endowment campaign for Wilson House. Mr. Brahs has over two decades in direct experience in fund-raising and overseeing the financial operations of not-for-profit organizations in the Nation's Capital, including serving on the finance and corporate committees of the Washington Performing Arts Society (WPAS) and WETA, Greater Washington's public radio and television station.
Christy Pennington Associate After graduating from Ohio University, Christy has worked for the past 12 years in marketing, event management, development and fundraising assignments, most recently for the Mayor's Office of Cultural Affairs for the City of Wilmington as Executive Director of "First Night Wilmington." Earlier, Christy served as Assistant Director of University Relations for the University of Delaware. Before that, she was employed as an account executive for Lyon's Marketing in Wilmington where she managed national accounts including Sperry Top-Sider, Kiwi Products, and Swiss Army Watches. Christy has served on grant review panels for the Delaware Division of the Arts and currently is a board member for First State Ballet Theatre in Wilmington. She volunteers for a variety of church and community activities in Seaford where her husband, Chris, is Senior Pastor at St. John's United Methodist Church.
Dennis Toner Associate Dennis Toner comes to Horizon after 34 years as the Deputy Chief of Staff for Senator (and now Vice President) Joe Biden. He brings extensive political fundraising, PR and relationship management skills to his first assignment as senior campaign manager for the Dover Public Library initiative. Dennis lives in Hockessin with his wife, who is a teacher.
Ray Sachs Associate Raymond Sachs for a number of years led advertising agencies in Baltimore, Chicago, and New York. Much of his work was with major American corporations creating campaigns for companies such as SmithKline, Lockheed Martin, Motorola, Time Inc. and others. More recently he managed magazine publications, including Bon Appetit, Civilization, and Preservation as well as serving on the board of Architectural Digest. His work was directed to the profitable management of these titles. Currently he serves as a consultant to a number of not for profit organization in the education and religious areas.
